What You'll Do

We are now searching for a new Business Director to co-lead the business and people agenda for four Nordic practice areas (PAs) together with the PA nodes. In addition, you will together with the leading Partner in Helsinki (The Office Leader - OL), shape our office culture and affiliation strategy and drive the local implementation of our Nordic people agenda, ensuring our office meets its high ambitions as a premium employer in the market.

In both dimensions, you will take on a critical leadership role for your team and indirect leadership as an important 'go to' person for the leadership team in the Practice Areas as well as the junior consultants and business service teams (BST) in the Helsinki office.

In addition, you will take an active part in our Nordic Operations Leadership Team and Nordic Business Director Leadership Team - ensuring good collaboration, best practice sharing and shaping/driving the Nordic development agenda.

As our new Business Director, and with the help of your team, you will have:

The Practice Area (PA) Role

  • Act as a strategic sparring partner to your four PA Nodes on all business and people topics.
  • Set and drive the PA business strategy and operationalize the priorities.
  • Lead the business and client planning process and set the PA business targets in alignment with Nordic business ambitions.
  • Responsible for tracking and delivering the business across the set revenue plan and KPIs (Revenue, client traction, billability and investments).
  • Steer (with the PA staffing team) the short- and long-term staffing and business development (BD) priorities based on PA strategy and people platforms and capabilities.
  • Support the PA leaders in operating their PA; incl setting the PA agenda and running all meetings for the practice area incl. pipeline calls, broader business/people calls, leadership meeting, etc.
People (Together with the PA node)
  • Develop and deliver the PA people plan, identifying the short- and long-term capability and expertise needs within your practice areas, working in close partnership with your PA Nodes; take into consideration the PAs' specific commercial growth ambitions, priorities, and current pyramid / capacity in tailoring these plans.
  • Identify, and manage the PA affiliation funnel and process (from Senior Consultants to Project Leaders).
  • Work with the career development committee (CDC) and PA MDP (Managing Director and Partner) group to ensure continuous viable platforms and clear sponsorship.
  • Work with CDC to help identify PPPL (Partners, Principals and Project Leaders) development needs and training/coaching/staffing requirements.
  • Develop and lead the PA affiliation plan for the Nordic leadership team and for the full PA team in the four offices.
  • Oversee and support the PA-level implementation of broader Global or Nordic people-wide projects / initiatives.
  • Indirect leadership and go-to-person for the practice area leadership team (Project Leaders, Principal and Partners) in covering all relevant people topics along BCG's employee value proposition involving other people functions or escalate issues to leadership as needed.
The Helsinki Office Role
  • Together with the Office Leader, shape and implement the office culture and affiliation agenda for the Helsinki office, to ensure we remain a top employer with relevant offerings and an attractive place to work.
  • Lead the execution of the Nordic people agenda in the Helsinki office across all cohorts e.g. career development and sponsorship. Working together with the Nordic people Team and relevant senior stakeholders to ensure we remain a top employer with relevant offerings and an attractive culture.
  • Setting the agenda and facilitating local Partner, extended leadership team, and office meetings together with the OL and local BST leadership (HR and Business service manager).
  • Be the line (or dotted line) manager for all local functions (Staffing, HR, Recruiting, Marketing and Operations with a team of around 30 professionals) and the Helsinki associates and Consultants.
What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of relevant working experience including senior leadership positions in a professional services firm, ideally in roles with a close interface to business and HR.
  • Alternatively, consulting experience (BCG or similar) at project leader level or above.
  • A strong analytical toolbox is a clear advantage.
  • Excellent skills in both written and verbal English, as well as superior communication, presentation, and interaction skills.
  • You have strong PowerPoint, Excel skills and advanced project management skills.
  • M.Sc, MBA or PhD or similar academic degree within a relevant field.

Who You'll Work With

The full consulting organization as well as our business service functions in HR, Marketing, Recruitment, Staffing and Operations on an everyday basis. Further, very frequent interaction with other Business Directors and Nordic Functions.

The role reports to the Helsinki Office Leader and the Nordic Business Management Senior Director.
