Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager who excels at leading, coaching, and organizing high-performing engineering teams. You will focus on people management, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure successful delivery of innovative software solutions. As the Engineering Manager for the Lens team, you will guide the development of Lens, the world's most popular IDE for Kubernetes developers, trusted by over 700,000 DevOps professionals globally. Lens continues to evolve as a cutting-edge platform, empowering users with powerful features and seamless workflows that enhance their Kubernetes experience.

In this role, you will oversee day-to-day operations, mentor engineers, and serve as the primary liaison among stakeholders, product management, and senior leadership. You will partner with technical leads to ensure the team's work aligns with strategic goals and follows best practices for quality and performance. If you are passionate about cloud-native technologies, team building, continuous improvement, and delivering value to customers in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Manage individual performance by providing regular feedback, setting clear objectives, and supporting career growth through coaching and development plans.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard new engineering talent in collaboration with HR and senior management, ensuring the team remains diverse, innovative, and high-performing.

Project & Process Management:

  • Plan and prioritize development initiatives in close collaboration with product managers, ensuring alignment with overall business and product objectives.
  • Ensure agile practices are implemented and followed within the team, driving the team toward incremental, iterative improvements in software delivery.
  • Participate in backlog grooming, sprint planning, and retrospectives, continually refining and optimizing processes to improve team productivity and efficiency.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to address dependencies, risks, and bottlenecks, promoting smooth collaboration across teams and departments.
  • Define, track, and communicate key metrics to measure team performance, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.

Collaboration with Technical Leads:

  • Partner with technical leads and architects to ensure high-level technical decisions align with product roadmaps and organizational goals.
  • Coordinate resource allocation and remove roadblocks, enabling technical leads and individual contributors to focus on design, coding, and innovation.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing by promoting best practices, tools, and techniques recommended by technical experts.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Partner closely with product owners, UX/UI designers, and business stakeholders to define product requirements, scope, and technical solutions that meet both user and business needs.
  • Act as a key point of contact for senior leadership and stakeholders, providing clear and timely communication on project progress, risks, and changes.
  • Align engineering priorities with broader organizational goals and product roadmaps, ensuring the team is focused on high-impact initiatives.
  • Present regular updates to senior leadership on team progress, including successes, challenges, and potential risks or opportunities.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, driving initiatives to enhance development processes, tooling, and team performance. Encourage the team to explore new technologies, frameworks, and methodologies that could bring efficiency gains or competitive advantages. Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies, collaborating with technical experts to evaluate potential benefits for the team. Encourage experimentation and creative problem-solving, recognizing and rewarding innovative ideas and approaches that align with business objectives.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience (typically 7+ years) in software engineering, with at least 3 years in an engineering management or team lead role.
  • Strong people-management skills, with demonstrated success in building, mentoring, motivating and scaling high-performing teams in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Solid understanding of modern software development processes and practices (e.g., Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code review processes)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively aligning teams around shared goals and delivering clear updates to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Track record of successful project delivery, managing timelines, dependencies, and risks to meet or exceed business and product objectives.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with product, design, and operations teams, facilitating collaboration and conflict resolution.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment, comfortable with change and equipped to guide teams through evolving priorities.
  • Experience in fostering innovation within teams and creating an environment where engineers feel empowered to propose and implement new solutions.
