GROUP FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

The mission of Swappie's Group Financial Controller is to lead, develop, and enable a high-performing Group Accounting and Financial Control function, ensuring excellence in statutory accounting, payments, and financial governance across the Group.

You will lead, coach, and support a team of five direct reports, and report to Swappie CFO yourself.  Driving a fast, predictable, and high-quality month-end closing process is an essential part of your work, as well as ensuring tax and regulatory compliance via well-designed preventive and detective controls.  You play a key role in actively evolving accounting processes and ways of working, focusing on documentation, standardization, and automation.

• Absence of financial reliability red flags in audits, tax reviews, or due diligence

Strong track record in leadership 

• Extraordinary People development skills; You have coached direct reports to their next career level.

• Capacity Planning skills; You are able to manage workloads while ensuring wellbeing and engagement during "finance high seasons" like year-end audits.

• Change Management; You drive the evolution of ways of working and are able to lead a team through process changes without losing engagement.

Technical Financial Mastery & Governance 

• We aren't just looking for someone who knows GAAP/IFRS, but someone who can build the frameworks that enforce them.

• Experience designing and implementing Internal Controls over Financial Reporting.

• Proficiency in complex group structures, intercompany eliminations, and multi-currency reporting.

• A strong grasp of statutory compliance and tax governance.

Process Engineering & Scalability

• Focus on predictability & Continuous Improvement mindset: We are looking for a "systems thinker" rather than just a "doer." Would you be able to shorten the Month-End Close (MEC) while increasing quality?

• Experience with ERP implementations or optimizing AP/PTP cycles; you have a knack for identifying manual bottlenecks and introducing scalable technology that frees the team up for higher-value analytical work.

• Commitment to SOPs: You see documentation as a  strategic asset for team sustainability. 

• Genuine curiosity towards new technologies and AI. 

Professional English and Finnish skills - Swappie's and finance team's shared language is English, but you will collaborate closely with external partners, and local tax and financial authorities in Finnish.

Practicalities:

Location: Helsinki (Swappie HQ), hybrid remote (our finance team gets together on a weekly basis, though)
Start Date: As soon as possible, negotiable
Contract: Full-time and permanent
Salary range for this role: € / month (the start salary is defined according to your experience & skills, and negotiated individually)
