Position Overview

We're looking for a data architect to join the Ookla solutions architecture team and help us process the world's best collection of data on mobile and fixed internet performance and transform it into valuable insights and features for our end users. As a data architect, you will play a key role in evolving our data platform to meet the future needs of real-time big data processing, low latency analytical queries, AI/ML integration, and growing compliance requirements. In this role, you will design and implement scalable data models, storages, and pipelines for critical product features that meet both our end users' and internal stakeholders' requirements while ensuring international compliance.

Expectations for Success
  1. You are able to collaborate closely with product managers, data and research scientists, and product engineering teams to understand product requirements.
  2. You are able to turn product requirements into viable and scalable architectures and implementations in a high data volume environment.
  3. You are able to create, communicate, and execute architectural and technological roadmaps.
  4. You are able to establish and follow data governance frameworks, standards, and best practices to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
  5. You are able to mentor and guide junior team members, helping them understand architectural principles, best practices, and effective ways of working.

Education & Background
  1. Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
  2. Background check is required
Technical Skills
  1. Strong background in object-oriented and functional programming using languages like Python, Scala, Java, or Go
  2. Strong working knowledge of SQL, databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Iceberg, and query engines like Athena and Trino
  3. Experience with streaming and event-driven architectures to process high volume data using tools like Spark
  4. Strong understanding of data modeling and modern data warehouse architectures like lakehouse
  5. Experience with at least one of AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure services
  6. Experience with AI/ML is nice to have
