Tenure-Track Professorship in Design Formgiving

Aalto University's Department of Design seeks a tenure-track professor in design formgiving to enhance academic expertise in design as a contemporary and unfolding formgiving practice.

About the Position

The successful candidate will have an outstanding research profile and the capacity to bridge the gap between theory and practice. The position will focus on design as a creative and solution-oriented sensemaking process, where giving form to physical and digital objects, relationships, and processes holds a central place.

Responsibilities
  • Lead high-quality research in the field of design formgiving, with a strong focus on theoretical foundations and practical applications.
  • Teach design courses at both BA and MA levels, emphasizing the integration of design knowledge and methods into established and emerging design domains.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring that formgiving competences are updated for a rapidly changing world.
Requirements
  • A doctoral degree in design or a related field.
  • Demonstrated track record in research relevant to the tenure track level.
  • Experience in education at university level.
  • Some experience in working with industry or in design practice.
  • Excellent skills in English.
