Karlstad Business School was established in 2009 as part of Karlstad University and comprises the disciplines of Working Life Science, Business Administration, Information Systems, Economics, and Statistics. The school achieved AACSB accreditation in 2021. The mission of Karlstad Business School is "We educate responsible professionals and conduct research with high societal impact", which permeates all activities of the school. Courses and study programs at all levels are firmly rooted in research conducted by both individual disciplines and interdisciplinary research groups. Since 2017, we offer a comprehensive law degree programme (270 credits) with specialisations in tax law, business law, criminal/procedural law and human law. Graduates receive general qualifications for service as law clerks. The law discipline also offers a range of courses designed for students enrolled in other degree programmes, as well as a doctoral programme with specialisations in jurisprudence, civil law, finance law, international law, environmental law, public law, procedural law and criminal law.
The discipline currently has a staff of around 25 people, and we need to expand We are now looking for a senior lecturer in procedural law.

DutiesThe senior lectureship in procedural law primarily involves teaching both Swedish civil law and criminal procedural law. Teaching in adjacent subject areas may be required. Duties include planning, conducting and evaluating teaching at both bachelor's and master's levels, as well as supervising degree projects.
We are looking for a senior lecturer who is a skilled teacher and who actively wants to participate in the development of the bachelor's and master's degree programmes in the discipline, as well as the doctoral programme. The position requires active participation in securing external research funding and in building and strengthening the discipline's external connections.
You are expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange, as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society.
To contribute to a positive work environment and further the department's activities, we expect you to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
Qualification requirementsTo be eligible for the position of senior lecturer in procedural law, applicants are required to have demonstrated teaching expertise. Applicants are also required to hold a PhD or equivalent academic qualifications in procedural law, or equivalent professional qualifications deemed relevant to the nature of the position and the duties included therein.
The position requires proficiency in Swedish and English.
Pursuant to Karlstad University's Appointments Procedure, teachers must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties involved, as well as completed training in higher education pedagogy.
Candidates who have not completed courses in higher education pedagogy may still be hired, provided that they use the time allotted to continual professional development to complete the required courses within two years of employment, or that they apply for validation of prior learning. Assessment criteriaIn the assessment, equal weight will be given to research expertise and teaching expertise.
In the assessment of research expertise, special weight will be given to research related to procedural law (especially criminal procedural law), as well as demonstrated expertise that can contribute to furthering the discipline's research in this field. Special weight will also be given to high potential regarding future academic activities, based on quality rather than quantity.
In the assessment of teaching expertise, special weight will be given to the ability to plan, conduct and evaluate teaching at various education levels, the ability to supervise and assess student learning, as well as the ability to assess how knowledge development and progression for different student groups, based on student-centred teaching, affect the design of teaching and examination.
The language of instruction is Swedish, and special weight will therefore be given to a good command of Swedish.
Special weight will also be given to personal qualities such as the ability to cooperate and contribute to a positive and well-functioning work environment. The applicant's ability to show commitment and persistence, work independently and take initiative will also be given special weight.
Considerable weight will be given to the applicant's documented skills and experience in leading and communicating development work to colleagues and students in relation to teaching and examination in their own subject or subject area.

This is a permanent, full-time position, starting 1 August 2025. A probationary period may be required.
