Offer Description

The Aalto University School of Business is the leading business school in Finland. The School belongs to the select group of business schools that have been granted the most important international quality accreditations in its field.

The Department of Management Studies in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher on Quantitative Tools for Qualitative Research with Artificial Intelligence (fixed-term position for 2 years).

We are looking for an early career researcher interested in the responsible use of large language models (LLMs) to facilitate and support qualitative research methods, particularly in management studies. The position is within the Aalto Center for Qualitative Management Research (or Qual+ for short) at the Department of Management Studies and involves collaboration with the Department of Computer Science.

The postdoctoral position is intended for the development of original empirical, methodological, and/or theoretical work related to the responsible use of large language models in the context of qualitative research. The applicant is expected to bring initiative and energy to this emerging research topic and to collaborate with faculty at the Management Studies and Computer Science departments.

We expect the chosen researcher to devote roughly half of their working time to their own research agenda and ongoing research projects with existing collaborators. The chosen applicant will be able to develop personal competencies during their postdoctoral project with the aim of publishing in the best international venues (journals, conference proceedings) relevant to their research.

The position is associated with a low teaching load of roughly 30-40 hours of classroom teaching per academic year and limited master's thesis supervision, with opportunities to be involved in doctoral training.

Your experience and ambitions

We look for scholars who are completing, or have completed within the past three years, their doctoral studies in a relevant field (management studies, computer science, or broader social sciences). The applicants should have demonstrated the ability to conduct research independently and to publish in high-quality scholarly venues. The position requires fluent skills in the English language.

We are looking to hire an early career researcher with knowledge and interest in both qualitative methods and quantitative approaches, as well as programming skills in Python.

The post-doctoral researcher is required to be in residence for the duration of the appointment. The starting date of the employment relationship can be negotiated, ideally commencing in August 2025 or earlier.

What we offer

This Postdoctoral Researcher position is a fixed-term position for two years (with possible extension up to 4 years). The expected starting salary for a Postdoctoral Researcher is approximately 4300 €/month (income before deduction of taxes), depending on experience and qualifications. Aalto University provides excellent learning and development opportunities as well as occupational health care services, versatile exercise services, and other employee benefits.

Our vast array of professional development opportunities means you will grow and learn, having the chance to participate actively in staff trainings and development projects based on your interests and needs.
