Hunome (Hunomics Ltd) is a collective sensemaking platform. We help businesses, societal organizations, and individuals make sense of often complex themes for richer understanding of how the world works or should work.

We are a remote and diverse team of 10+. We launched the web-based platform in Q2 2021. All in the team are working shareholders.

Our collective sensemaking platform helps build multidimensional shared understanding and we analyze and find patterns in that for our members and clients. This is an exciting space for a data scientist to make a positive difference in the world.

You would represent what many would call a great commercially minded senior data scientist, you know what it means to be senior in that role. You are someone who is definitely wanting to make their mark in a startup, you care about what we are aiming to change in the world and you have the mindset to be consistent and persevere. Otherwise, it would be just another job.

An immediately salaried 'job' is not what you are after but showcasing your experience in data science within a startup with unique data for the potential for massive return with the team's success (shares are your first reward, once we are funded or have sufficient revenue we all get paid). We make it possible for you to take the first startup step in a part-time role as a working shareholder.

We're now looking for a hands-on Data Scientist who can use their skills to evolve our data strategy, innovate new product dimensions, implement them into continuously improved outputs, and propose new means to discover insights from our data. We will be guided by your analysis of the company data to make smarter decisions to deliver better products.

Your interest in the data engineering side would see you roadmap our AI technology evolution and the preparation of the environment. This role is more data scientist and data analyst than data engineer.

You will work closely with the product team and the technology team to excel in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and preprocess large datasets, employing various text vectorization techniques (e.g., TF-IDF, Word2Vec, BERT).
  • Design, implement, and optimize machine learning models for text classification, sentiment analysis, topic modelling, and clustering.
  • Perform clustering analyses to identify patterns and group similar textual data, leveraging techniques such as K-means, hierarchical clustering, and DBSCAN.
  • Leverage large language models (LLMs) for tasks such as text generation, summarization, and querying.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data requirements and extract valuable insights.
  • Communicate findings and present actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Stay updated with the latest research and developments in NLP and machine learning.
Qualifications:
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in NLP, including practical knowledge of text processing and vectorization techniques.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, with experience in libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, NLTK, and spaCy.
  • Strong understanding of clustering techniques and experience applying them to real-world datasets.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and tools for data storage and processing.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with complex datasets and derive insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Working Conditions:
  • 20hrs per week on average, arranged flexibly to fit your other job.
  • Remote team - Company is based in Helsinki, Finland. Diverse team in many countries.
  • English is our working language.

At the moment, we cannot be a sponsor of a work permit. If you wish to work in Finland, applicants should hold a work permit valid until end 2025.

Please Note: The team benefits from gaining direct equity, ownership in the company. The basis for gaining that is a minimum of 20hrs per week commitment for sufficient focus to become successful in the role. Once Hunome is ready to pay the salary, you would become 100% focused on the business. This means that you can build your startup career while earning a living in a day job or other part-time work. (NB: a contract with a big IT firm may exclude you from this offer).
