We're looking for a Data Architect to join the Ookla cloud technology team and help us process the world's best collection of data on mobile and fixed internet performance and transform it into valuable insights and features for our end users. As a data architect, you will design and implement scalable data models and pipelines for critical product features that meet both our end users' and internal stakeholders' requirements while ensuring international compliance. The applicants should have hands-on skills and a strong technical background in software and data architectures, as well as excellent communication skills. Experience in AI and ML is a plus.

Expectations for Success
  1. Collaborate closely with product managers, data and research scientists, and product engineering teams to understand product requirements.
  2. Turn product requirements into viable and scalable architectures and implementations in a high data volume environment.
  3. Create, communicate, and execute architectural and technological roadmaps.
  4. Establish and follow data governance frameworks, standards, and best practices to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
  5. Mentor and guide junior team members, helping them understand architectural principles, best practices, and effective ways of working.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience.
  2. Strong background in object-oriented and functional programming using languages like Python, Scala, and Java.
  3. Experience with high volume distributed data processing using tools like Spark.
  4. Strong working knowledge of SQL and databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Athena, and Iceberg.
  5. Strong understanding of data modeling and modern data warehouse architectures like lakehouse.
  6. Excellent troubleshooting and analysis skills.
  7. Excited to learn and work with new technologies in a dynamic environment.
  8. Strong communication skills both in person and via virtual mediums.
  9. Strong time management skills and a self-driven work ethic.
  10. Experience with AWS cloud services is a plus.
  11. Experience with event-driven architecture and streaming data pipelines is a plus.
  12. Background check is required.
