Group Operational Risk - Operational Risk Monitoring

This is an opportunity for you to be part of an organisation which provides risk oversight to executive and senior management and ensures that Nordea has adequate controls in place. Risk management and integrity go hand in hand - it's all about making sure that we're a trusted partner to our colleagues, customers, and society - the foundation for great customer experiences.

About this opportunity

As Lead Risk Expert in Group Operational Risk, you will play a key role to ensure proper management of operational risks across the Nordea Group. You will join the Operational Risk Monitoring team consisting of Risk Experts and enter a dynamic environment working daily with operational risk topics.

The Operational Risk Monitoring team is the central team within the Group Operational Risk facilitating daily collaboration with the Risk Area Teams, running monitoring and testing projects across Business Areas, and driving strategic planning and oversight related processes for Group Operational Risk. You will build and maintain a network of relevant stakeholders to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of Nordea's governance, risk management, and control processes. You will not have a people-leading role, but you will provide leadership within your areas of expertise and act as a role model to your colleagues. Working with us, you will help to ensure that risk management underpins every decision we make and every action we take. Together, we are passionate about building a bank that makes a difference - one where you can learn and grow and that's where you come in.

Your future responsibilities:

  • Supporting Group Operational Risk in efficient risk monitoring and effective use of data for risk insights and identifying projects as part of the annual planning processes.
  • Leading testing projects with a focus on the effectiveness of controls on operational risks; e.g., errors in transaction processing, systems, products, or models across Nordea's Business Areas (1st line of defence), in accordance with the testing methodology and documentation requirements, and assessing whether significant risks are adequately identified and controlled.
  • Challenging senior management on the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal controls and reporting observations and recommendations to affected stakeholders and senior management.
  • Maintaining and developing the Group Operational Risk Monitoring framework.
  • Collaborating and providing support for the various activities across Group Operational Risk.
  • Leading and ensuring to improve efficiency and reduce complexity in processes to enable faster and better results.
  • Supporting and advising Business Areas on implementation of risk frameworks and providing general risk advice.
  • Liaising with stakeholders such as Group Compliance, Group Risk, and Group Internal Audit.

The role is based in Denmark (Copenhagen), Finland (Helsinki), Sweden (Stockholm), or Poland (Warszawa). Welcome to a diverse and dynamic team working in a fast-paced environment.

Who you are

Collaboration. Ownership. Passion. Courage. These are the values that guide us in being at our best – and that we imagine you share with us.

Your profile and background:

  • 6 years of experience with risk management experience, preferably operational risk, compliance risk, audit, or consultancy firms.
  • Structured mindset, able to organize various data into clear thought processes, able to deal with complex issues whilst paying attention to details and not afraid to challenge the status quo.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, able to pitch and deliver key messages to senior management quickly with clear justification and plan for action.
  • Self-driven, result-oriented, and a team player with high integrity and capacity to work independently and able to build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge in key regulatory areas for the financial sector, e.g., MAR, MiFID, CRR/CRD as well as risk management processes and developing trends in the industry is a merit.
  • Holder of a relevant university (master's) degree e.g., finance, economics, law, audit.
