We are Helsinki Shipyard – celebrating 160 years of shipbuilding excellence. Since 1865, we have been designing, building, and commissioning tailor-made, high-class passenger vessels and icebreakers for extreme conditions. We proudly continue the legacy of Helsinki's own Shipyard, right in the heart of Helsinki.

With us, you get to design and build the ships under one roof from start to finish, in close collaboration with our customers. Our specialty lies in vessels that operate on the polar seas, but we can build everything from smaller yachts to complex multi-purpose icebreakers. To provide you with some perspective, we've built 50% of the world's icebreakers - without us it would be hard to navigate in the icy seas

We are now beginning construction on a new heavy icebreaker for the Canadian government. The vessel will be constructed in Helsinki before being completed at Davie's shipyard in Quebec by 2030. Read more about the project here

We are now looking for a Document Controller to join our Design Department in Helsinki.

This is a great opportunity to be involved in a range of ship design projects and play a key role in maintaining and managing essential project documentation. In this role, you'll work closely with designers, project management, production, and shipyard staff, contributing throughout the full design process — all the way to vessel delivery. You'll also collaborate with a colleague in a similar role and have the chance to support multiple ongoing projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sending project documentation to the client and classification societies using Docuware and Jira.

  • Monitoring and reporting on document status to project management.

  • Managing design documentation, certificates, manuals, test programs, correspondence, and other related project documents.

  • Coordinating vessel delivery documentation in collaboration with partners.

  • Maintaining the document management system, providing training, and offering user support.

  • Supporting users of the AVEVA ERM material management system.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience administering software systems, especially document or material management systems.

  • Ability to train others in using digital tools and platforms.

  • Strong written and spoken English skills; Finnish is a plus.

  • Collaborative mindset and the ability to work across teams and departments.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks at once.

Experience in a similar role is a definite advantage, as is familiarity with tools such as Docuware, Jira, or AVEVA ERM. A background in shipbuilding, marine design, or handling classified documentation is considered beneficial.
