We are looking for a Frontend Engineer Trainee to join the S-kaupat team in Helsinki. The role is fixed term, and we hope you can work with us approximately between June and August. S-kaupat is part of the SOK Digital Development community, where we develop web services and apps for the whole S Group - digitalizing the S Group services. Your future team includes developers, designers, and business professionals, all working together as a team. This is a great opportunity for you to learn from talented professionals and gain valuable experience We work in a hybrid setting, so it would be great if you could work at our office in Ässäkeskus in Helsinki at least two days a week.

Your Responsibilities

As a Frontend Engineer Trainee, your main duties during the summer will be feature development and maintenance work (e.g., doing small fixes, updating libraries, and writing tests) with the team. Your tasks are mostly related to frontend using TypeScript, React, React Native, NextJS, and Playwright. Depending on your interests, you can also work with the mobile app. Senior colleagues will help and guide you throughout your training period.

Examples of what we've been working on lately in S-kaupat:

  • Fast deliveries and robot deliveries
  • Visual redesign of web and mobile shops
  • Product availability information improvements
  • Accessibility improvements related to the European accessibility directive

Is this you?

You are curious and analytical, and you communicate effectively in English. You love to write code and solve problems. You respect software engineering as a team sport, so working with others is your preferred way to get things done. As our Trainee, we expect you to have 1-2 years of engineering studies behind you, and through that a basic understanding of software engineering. While we don't require prior work experience from the field, all experience in coding counts as your advantage – especially frontend and React or React Native related experience.
