We are now looking for aPostdoctoral researcher in the field of lignocellulose chemistryAre you interested in research and working towards the future of bio-based polymer technologies? We are now looking for a motivated co-worker to a team that is passionate about forest resources, biomass, fractionation processes and phenomenon, materials, and their future perspective.
Your role and goalsThe group is looking for 1-2 postdoctoral researchers with high scientific ambition and a background in the field of lignocellulose materials. The group has several ongoing projects in the field, ranging from polymeric properties of wood hemicelluloses and lignins, resource-efficient processing of forest biomass, to innovative packaging systems. You are expected to divide your time between pursuing your own research and instructing doctoral researchers with planning of experiments and writing of scientific papers. The position(s) are offered within a CIMANET doctoral education network and FinnCERES Flagship, thus you are also expected to support the arrangements of various events within the network. The position is available immediately, but the starting date can be negotiated to several months ahead.
Your network and teamThe position is open in the research group lignocellulosic chemistry headed by Prof. Tiina Nypelö. The laboratories are situated within the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems. The department of Bioproducts and Biosystems (Bio2), one of the three departments in the School of Chemical Engineering at Aalto University, has an internationally leading reputation in basic and applied research for the development of advanced materials from natural resources. It is one of the leading European research and higher education institutions in the field of sustainable chemistry and engineering based on the utilization of renewable resources. Bio2 aims to contribute to the development of novel solutions to move towards sustainable primary production and processing systems that can produce materials with fewer inputs, less environmental impact and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Within bioscience, the department has research in bioprocess technology, molecular biotechnology, enzyme technology, metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, biomolecular, and biohybrid materials. Other strengths of the department include sustainable materials and products based on lignocellulose, ranging from nanomaterials to novel cellulose-based textiles.
The project is connected to FinnCERES Flagship program (https://www.finnceres.fi/research-themes) and CIMANET doctoral education network.
Your Experience And AmbitionsThe candidate is expected to have:
- Recently obtained PhD or doctoral degree (within 5 years) in chemistry, chemical engineering, forest products, or similar
- Good written and oral communication skills in English
- Interest in working in the laboratory, carrying out experiments, measurements, and data analysis
The postdoctoral researcher position will be filled for 1.5 up to 3 years. The expected starting salary of the postdoctoral researcher is 3960-4100 EUR/month depending on experience.
The workplace is in Otaniemi, Espoo. The Otaniemi campus is a thriving and connected community of 100 nationalities, 13,000 students and 4,500 employees.
